It’s Not About The Scale
What you weigh is just a small part of the big picture of your health. It doesn’t tell the whole story and it can be downright deceiving. I don’t even own a scale. I know where I’m at based on how I feel, how I look (my muscle to fat ratio) and how my clothes fit.
I’ve probably been at or around the same weight for years, but what that looks like has varied because it depends on how active I’ve been and what I’ve been eating. We can weigh the same amount, but look and feel totally different based on our body composition.
My company posted an amazing article about this in December. Here’s an excerpt from it:
“[F]at mass and muscle mass contribute to weight in very different ways. Fat is essential to survival, but when it is in excess, health issues can arise. In comparison, muscle mass is good for your health, but it also tends to weigh more by volume than the same amount of fat. This means an increase in the number on the scale could be attributed to a gain in muscle mass, even if body fat stays the same or even decreases.”
